mid summer update

back from louise's wedding in the south of france! it was actually so much fun, not at the same level as but similar type to palestine and taiwan trip vibes. if I'm feeling sad to be done with trip, can't imagine how louise feels.

  • the other wedding guests, especially road trip guests, were so fantastic. everyone was so nice, friendly, down to chat. everyone was also down to pitch in and help. gosh.
  • also everyone was down to play blood on the clocktower. everyone was FUN and involved. likely the destination wedding and group trip component selected for these traits (a homebody wouldn't even attend), but I also see it as a result of louise and khoa being self-proclaimed "picky" about their friendships. while I am less picky, this has inspired me to nurture my favorite friendships more.
since coming back...
  • I verbally gave notice for my apartment today, and tomorrow I will be seeing a potential sublet that will be 8/1 to 11/30. the move-back-to-sf ball is in motion. with my current lease ending 8/8, I'll have about a week of overlap to tie up loose ends.
  • I re-sold a BTS ticket from jane to tisha. so our BTS group will be me, brian, jane, tisha, ivy, and three of ivy's friends. I'm excited to make freebies with tisha before the concert!
  • ugh I feel spoiled, but it looks like I will also be seeing big bang in september!! my coworkers (at least kenny and ling) will be coming to NYC. wasn't I just thinking about how to turn team IU into a friendship outside the office, and now there is a whole ass new york trip. they will have their own friends and I'll have brian though.
  • I'm on bumble BFF for the express purpose of finding clubbing friends, because I want to visit all the asian clubs before I leave. but I also want to club with people who I like when they are sober and outside the club.
  • I still need to coordinate some dolomites logistics

honest thoughts that I'm scared to write down because they could probably end a relationship 🔪

hemmed and hawed until brian asked me what I thought of this trip I said the "vibes were off" in the beginning, though I did also bring up maman on sunday (end of the trip) as an example. him scrolling [reels] on his phone after he had finished eating. yes, he did put his phone down and engage when I started serving him softballs (what's a harder trip, A vs B) he asked for "actionables" and I said there were none. I think we do approach problems similarly — if there's no "ask" for the other person to change, there's no impetus to bring it up. but I do  think back to the principle, one I do not follow, of bringing things up when they bother you, even if they're small. of course, there needs to be a threshold, which I am struggling to find. ultimately, I did not say this explicitly, but I said everything around it: even though there is nothing I want him to change, I want him to know that I felt unhappy. because if we break up in the future w...

nyc office life + apartment hunting

quick, jot down some thoughts before bed! it's been two weeks in the nyc office, which is not long, and socially it hasn't been great. I feel like a wuss. but I also know this is just part of the process of being new and being a singleton without a team. it's going to take extra effort on my part to get integrated. I knew that coming in, but I'm just also really feeling the difficulty right now. the first two in-office days (mondays 6/16 and 6/23) I ate lunch with others, but the rest of the days I've been skipping lunch because no one came to invite me (as atul did on 6/16) and I also couldn't muster up the social willpower/courage/battery to invite myself to lunch (as I did on 6/23). and it's okay!! well, ok I actually believe in the power of streaks. so I would rather not continue the streak of skipping lunch. it's better for every in-office day to be successful, and if it's not going to be successful day, I might as well not go in. failure begets...
